As far as manufacturers go, we have all the usual suspects. Sony, Motorola and HTC have all said which devices will be updated. Meanwhile, on the Google side, we know that all current-line Nexus devices will get an update, including devices as far back as the Nexus 4 and original Nexus 7. This is a surprise, as most of us deemed these devices as dead and not qualified for an update, yet that doesn’t seem to be the case. Surprisingly, Samsung hasn’t yet confirmed or denied which of its devices will get the Lollipop treatment, and as far as we know, they are still struggling to bring KitKat to some of its devices this year. So things aren’t looking too good, even though it’s likely that devices like the Galaxy S4/Note 3 and S5/Note 4 will end up getting Lollipop officially. LG has also remained silent thus far, even though it’s very likely that the flagship devices will get the update.
Google:
Google will be bringing the Lollipop update to the following devices:
– Nexus 4
– Nexus 5
– Nexus 7 (2012)
– Nexus 7 (2013)
– Nexus 10
Alongside these, of course, we have the Google Play Edition (GPE) devices, which encompass all manufacturers and carry stock versions of Android developed in collaboration with Google. Devices that fall within 18 months of the update release schedule are due for an update, and that includes the GPE versions of the following devices:
– HTC One (M7)
– HTC One (M8)
– Samsung Galaxy S4
– Moto G
– Sony Z Ultra
– LG G Pad 8.3
Finally, Google now also maintains the new Android One line of devices, tailored for the developing market. These Android One devices will also get a Lollipop update:
– Micromax CanvasA1
– Spice Dream UNO
– Karbonn Sparkle V
Sony:
Sony has revealed that they are bringing the Lollipop update to all of their Z device series, which is pretty remarkable. This includes the following devices:
– Xperia Z
– Xperia ZL
– Xperia ZR
– Xperia Z1
– Xperia Z1s
– Xperia Z Ultra
– Xperia Z1 Compact
– Xperia Z2
– Xperia Z2 Tablet
– Xperia Z3
– Xperia Z3 Compact
– Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
Motorola:
As usual, Motorola’s pretty good when it comes to device updates. Out of the gate, updates for the following devices are confirmed:
– Moto X
– Moto X 2nd Gen.
– Moto G
– Moto G 4G LTE
– Moto G 2nd Gen.
– Moto E
– Droid Ultra
– Droid Maxx
– Droid Mini
HTC:
HTC is updating the usual suspects, which includes their flagship devices and current hardware:
– One (M7)
– One (M8)
– One Mini
– One Mini 2
– Desire Eye
Miscellaneous:
A few other manufacturers have also spoken about their plans to update their devices to Android 5.0:
– nVidia Shield
– OnePlus One
– Xolo One
For now, these are the confirmed updates on the way. LG and Samsung owners, do not despair, as it’s very likely that every 2013 device will eventually get an update as well at the very least, although no public information confirming that exists quite yet. We also do not have concrete release dates, although the usual release schedule is 60 to 90 days after the Nexus devices get their update straight from Google. However, since Lollipop is a radical update, it may take a little longer this time around. There is no lack of interest on release information about this update, so we’ll keep on the lookout for new conformations in the future!
